Although
commonly described as "maintenance free",
it is essential for VRLA standby batteries
to be monitored on a routine basis to ensure
reliable operation. When supporting Telephone
Switches the battery system is critical to
achieving 100% availability of communications.
Advanced Battery Care Engineers maintain 2,000
telecommunication sites across the UK, ensuring
that these emergency power systems operate
reliably when needed.
Many major Telecommunication, UPS and Facilities
Management companies outsource this maintenance
work to Advanced Battery Care Limited.
The case for considering outsourcing.

Businesses
these days are leaner than ever before. What
all businesses need to do is to concentrate
on their core activities, to be the best at
those tasks and leave peripheral work to specialist
organizations. The benefits of using Advanced
Battery Care Ltd. as a service provider are
numerous. |
1. Expertise
As with every trade, dealing with Lead-Acid or Nickel
Cadmium batteries requires specialist knowledge
to ensure safe, effective and successful maintenance.
Because batteries are our business, our knowledge
of batteries is second to none. We hold regular
training courses for our staff, visit battery manufacturing
plants, attend seminars, workshops and exhibitions
- all to enhance our expertise regarding batteries.
We manufacturer battery impedance monitoring equipment
with many of our competitors being included in our
customer list, and we manufacture or distribute
many other battery related products.
2. Environmental
Advanced Battery Care Ltd operates a Waste Management
system registered to ISO14001:2004.
We also comply with statutory obligations being
registered with the Environment Agency as a Broker
and Carrier of waste. This allows us to dispose
of scrap batteries and provide the necessary Consignment
Notes, in line with July 2005 environmental legislation,
to our customers.
3. Safety
Our engineers carry all that is needed to ensure
safety: protective clothing, Acid neutralizing chemicals,
spill kits, first aid kits with additional eyewash
facilities, insulated tools, everything we know
of, from long experience, to ensure safety of personnel
and on-site equipment.
4. Quality
Advanced Battery Care Limited operates a registered
quality management system to ISO EN BS 9001 (2000)
which specifically relates to "the supply,
installation, maintenance and monitoring of standby
batteries, Uninterruptible Power Systems and related
products".
5. Cost
FinalTogether with the benefits above, a company
using our specialist services will achieve cost
savings, while providing their customers with a
better service. As a result of programmes to achieve
a continual improvement in performance and efficiency,
such as our "Investors in People" programme,
we are able to hold down prices as far as possible
despite rising prices.
These are the compelling reasons that have led to
so many companies outsourcing battery services to
Advanced Battery Care Limited. Contact us to discuss
your requirements. We have the resources to provide
a completely managed service for power systems across
the UK and Northern Ireland - leaving your engineers
free to concentrate on what they are good at!
UPS Systems
UPS systems rated at several hundred
kVA used in Data Centers have large batteries often
consisting of multiple parallel strings and several
hundred cells or monoblocs. Typically the batteries
use 6 volt monoblocs of 100AH or 160AH capacity
or 2 volt cells of up to 500AH capacity having a
Design Life of 10 years.
Depending on the quality of manufacture the whole
battery will have a reliable operational life averaging
around eight years. Because of the electro-chemical
nature of batteries, their life span is determined
in the main by the rate of internal corrosion which
naturally occurs and which is quite variable. Although
the vast majority will perform well for the full
period expected, some will corrode more rapidly
and therefore fail earlier than the rest. In a battery
consisting of many hundred cells occasional cells
may fail much earlier, even during the first years
of operation.
To ensure reliable operation an
annual test is recommended to ensure that all cells
are in good condition. Advanced Battery Care Ltd
provide such tests to many sites and can test up
to 1,000 cells or monoblocs per day.
The financial consequences of battery failure at
these large sites can run into many thousands of
pounds making the relatively inexpensive annual
test by a leading battery maintenance company a
very worthwhile investment.
Advanced Battery Care completes these tests for
major UPS manufacturers and facilities management
companies as well as end users across the UK.
